Traditional S’MORMON

Ingredients:

1. Homemade Graham Crackers (recipe)
2. Your choice of chocolate
3. Your choice of marshmallow

Commentary:

Really all that’s essential with this recipe is to make your own homemade graham crackers. There are several recipes online. I’m not completely sold on the recipe we used, but I also didn’t follow it exactly (they certainly didn’t take 25 minutes to bake, so keep your eye on them). When we made these S’MORMONS, we used marshmallow creme and a variety bag of Ghirardelli chocolate squares.

White Chocolate Snickerdoodle S’MORMON


Ingredients:

1. Snickerdoodles (recipe)
2. Lindt White Chocolate
3. Marshmallow Creme

Commentary:

This recipe features a mild, cinnamon-sugar flavor. Originally, I had tried a Ghirardelli Cinnamon Crunch Square, but I found its cinnamon flavor clashed with the cinnamon flavor in the Snickerdoodle. For a more dynamic flavor, experiment with other chocolate flavors!

Lemon Coconut Dark Chocolate S’MORMON

3. Marshmallow Creme

Commentary:

We tried this recipe for the first time with our friends, Mike and Jen, when we met up on a Monday night for Family Home Evening. It turned out even better than I expected, with a delicate and dynamic flavor that made me want to eat it slowly so I could study and savor each bite. The lemon and coconut played well together but maintained their distinctiveness, and the dark chocolate added a disarming richness. Pumpkin Candy Corn S’MORMON

1. Pumpkin Cookies
2. Hershey’s Candy Corn Creme Bar
3. Marshmallow Creme

Commentary:

A unique and tasty October snack, assuming Hershey keeps making the Candy Corn Creme Bar… The Pumpkin Cookies featured in the above photo are a family favorite because they are soft, tasty, and simple to make. You only need two ingredients: a Spice Cake mix and a can of pureed pumpkin!

A variation on this S’MORMON can be made with a Candy Corn Peep that comes dipped in white chocolate. It looks a bit like Donald Trump hair. In that spirit, “Make Dessert Great Again with a S’MORMON!”

Strawberries & Cream S’MORMON

Ingredients:

1. Angel Food Cupcake
2. Lindt Strawberries & Creme
3. Marshmallow Creme

Commentary:

Since I had a challenge finding a legitimate Angel Food Cookie recipe, I opted to make an Angel Food Cupcake. The result was dreamy, but could benefit from a stronger strawberry flavor — either through the addition of strawberry jam or a real strawberry.

Original (Molasses Chocolate Toffee) S’MORMON

Commentary:

This is the recipe that got the ball rolling. It resulted from a creative exercise to develop S’mores for different regional areas of the world. Since I’m a Mormon and spent some of my life in Utah and have Mormon pioneer ancestry, it was natural to develop a Utah S’MORMON early on. In fact, that’s where the name S’MORMON came from!
